MARQUIS AMERICA recommends Fetish factory 14.th anniversary party in Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, USA – Memorial Day Weekend – May 22-23-24, 2009

Fetish Factory is notorious for the 3-night / 4-party Fetish Weekend concept and has continually hosted the largest event in North America for four years running which began with the 10-Year Anniversary in 2005 – this will be FF’s 5th year in a row hosting this 3-day gala!

The event draws partiers worldwide from over 25 different countries and countless cities around the USA. Fetish Factory boasts the top names in the game including performers, models, photographers, media and fetish-world icons.

Discount tickets are now on sale online and will be on sale at the Fetish Factory retail store in early February. Buying your tickets in advance will offer you a significant discount when compared to the door price so save some money and get yours in advance.

martin_ae052707_0030113 Crazy Nights – 4 Amazing Parties
Are you a fetish tri-athlete? Do you have what it takes to go the distance? Escape the mundane real world and immerse yourself in an unbelievable surreal fetish fantasy for an extended weekend!

Memorial Day Weekend will be a marathon of fetish fun with three different themed nights at three venues. FF hosts three full-scale, high-production events on back-to-back nights – plus one kink-under-the-sun fetish pool party on Sunday for a total of 4 events in one long weekend!

Things will kick off with FF’s Beat & Greet Fetish Party on Friday, May 22 where you will get to meet the players and fetish celebs of the weekend who you will be partying with. This is not some hub-bub meet & greet. This is a full-blown fetish party and a big kickoff to the fetish weekend!

The main event, the Anniversary Fetish Ball will be hosted on Saturday, May 23rd and features the biggest performances and crowd of the year including the finest fetish entertainment and state-of-the-art sound, lighting, DJs & VJs.

Saturday’s event is a tour-de-force of fetish partying featuring a huge multi-level space transformed into the most elaborately decorated fetish nightclub. This event draws a fun and playful crowd that fills the place to the rafters. The main event has been known to draw 2,000+ fetish-frenzied partiers in a single night.

ruby_merger_ae052308_005111The wildest party of the weekend will be the last! The Extreme Fetish Play Party will be hosted on Sunday, May 24th and is a taste of the extreme fetish parties usually hosted by Fetish Factory’s XFP website. This a more hardcore event and is not for everyone, but for some players, this is a party that they cannot afford to miss!

Fetish Factory will be announcing their official venues for these three parties soon, but all of the locations are central and convenient to Broward Country.

FF will be announcing our list of performers in the coming weeks and months. They already have confirmed Alter Ego & Fetish Factory’s own Rebecca of Rebecca’s Rubber Room, and extreme fetish performer Samar who performed an incredible suspension show alongside Allen Falkner at the 12-Year Extreme Fetish Players Party. Check out the gallery from that show here.

Stay where the party is!
FF has innovated the Fetish Weekend concept by doing something that no one else in the world does: establish a host hotel to keep all the partiers in a central location. This assures that the party goes on all weekend long even when the nightclub closes its doors for the night. The hotel will be party central 24/7 for 3 consecutive days!

hotel1The host hotel is officially the Sheraton Ft Lauderdale, a 4-star hotel! This hotel as a nice, posh establishment that will be an excellent base of operations for the party weekend. The hotel features a much more spacious pool area than hotels in previous years conveniently located on the ground level.

100% Hotel Takeover!
FF is doing something new this year – they have made a guarantee to the hotel to take over every room top to bottom, so the hotel will be absolutely 100% fetish crowd! This will give the party people a lot more leniency and allow FF to do a lot of interesting things at the hotel that they have not been able to do in previous years. If you want to live in a kinky 24-hour fetish fantasyland for the entire weekend, you definitely don’t want to miss a minute of this!

If you are traveling from out of town, don’t even think about staying anywhere other than the host hotel. Fetish Factory secures a special deep-discounted rate well under retail. The social scene that goes on all weekend at the hotel is so great that even many core-crowd locals book a room for the weekend. It’s a spectacle to witness a hotel completely taken over by fetishists for an entire extended weekend.

This fabulous hotel is right around the corner from the Ft. Lauderdale Airport, immediately accessible from I-95, and is located a short distance from all of the announced party venues, the Atlantic Ocean beaches, and the Fetish Factory retail store. For more information about the host hotel, please visit the accommodations page on the 14-Year Anniversary website.

The published group rate for FF guests is only $99/night (the retail rate for this hotel is $200+ per night!). These are fantastic, spacious comfortable rooms, and our rate will be applied per-room and not per-guest! You may legally have up to 4 guests in one room to cut cost.

Book your room early to assure our special discount rate. As the hotel begins to fill up, the rules may change, rates may go up, and 2-3 night minimums may apply, so if you want a single night or just want to take advantage of this incredible deal, we encourage you to book now.

Free Round-Trip Airport pickup
The Sheraton sweetens the deal even more by including free round-trip transport to and from the airport to the hotel in the cost of your room. This is a $60 savings over taking a cab like in previous years! With this and our shuttle bus transportation to and from the events, hotel and FF store, there is absolutely no reason to waste money on a rental car or cab rides all over town.

The hotel has a friendly same-day cancellation policy: as long as you call before noon on the day of check-in you may cancel your reservation without penalty. If you are considering going this year, there is no reason to delay. Book your room now.

Fetish Pool Party – Hotel Guests Only
Fetish Factory also hosts a hotel guests-only pervy pool party on Saturday during the weekend of the event. This is a 100% fetish-friendly event and no vanilla outsiders will be allowed poolside! As if you needed another reason to book a room, this is an outrageous event that you can’t afford to miss!

Book Your Flight
If you are coming in from out of town, Fetish Factory recommends that you make your flight and hotel reservations as soon as possible to assure availability. Flights go fast and late bookings become costly.

Let FF do the driving!
Fetish Factory has also innovated simplicity for its guests providing comfortable, air conditioned tour bus transportation to and from all events. Now you don’t have to bother with the hassle of renting a car and getting lost in an unfamiliar place. Just take a cab from the airport to the hotel and FF takes care of the rest! Also, enjoy free stretch limo service to & from the hotel to the Fetish Factory store over the weekend.

Visit Florida and party!
If that isn’t enough, Fetish Factory’s event is different because it takes place among a tropical paradise. Florida has a wonderfully warm year-round climate, beautiful beaches that go on forever, and variety of activities and attractions for every lifestyle that you can’t find anywhere else. There are countless reasons why Florida is the #1 vacation destination. There is nowhere else in the world where you can experience fetish clubbing under the stars year round. Come for the party, stay for as long as you can! Make the event a part of your travel plans to visit the Sunshine State.

Table Reservations & Bottle Service
All three event nights will be offering VIP table reservations with required bottle service. If you are interested in the highest possible level of service while at the club, and if you could enjoy the real estate of having a roped-off table reserved for your friends as a base of operations, this is for you. Email Glenn or call 954-563-5777 (dial zero and ask for Glenn) to discuss a reservation. We will be posting bottle service menus on the 14-Year Anniversary website as the venues are announced.

The best source for all the most current and accurate information is the official website for the 14-Year Anniversary Fetish Ball. This site will be constantly updated with breaking information right up to the event. You can also call the Fetish Factory store at 954-563-5777 or send email directly to the owner Glenn at glenn@fetishfactory.com with any questions or concerns.

Kinky Educational Workshops
FF will host the popular kinky educational workshops put on by LAC. These informative courses are great for beginners or seasoned veterans of the BDSM and fetish scenes. More information coming soon.

Fetish Shopping
Fetish Factory has a large selection of crazy, sexy fetish fashions with new items coming in all the time leading up to the Anniversary Weekend. Come in today and check out FF’s new styles or shop online.

Want More?
Fetish Factory has created a dedicated website that is a great resource for all the latest information on the 14-Year Anniversary. In case you are wondering what it’s all about, the website also features free videoclips and slideshows from past fetish weekends.

Misappropriation and Misuse: ‘Boards’ and ‘Protocol’

26|
January
2009 | 8:06 pm

The following is not designed to be any kind of critique on anyone’s use of certain English words. It’s more of an opportunity for Your Humble Narrator to impart some teachings … I do not condemn or cast disdain about current opportunities and discussions … But I make no apologies for making editorial comment in regards to a past exchange of unpleasantries …

Continued discussion on potentially new and exciting events took a bit of an alarming side exit towards the end today … and rather than continue to extend the length of that particular topic, I thought it might be a good idea to start an entirely new, but somewhat related, discussion.

Someone suggested in Toronto recently it would be a good idea for a new “fetish event” to have a “board” consisting of certain demographics within our ‘community’, mainly consisting of a Dominant man and woman and a submissive man and woman, responsible for making all key decisions.

This is starting to sound a little bit too much along the same lines as the “rules” of a GTA area “group” that, in my opinion (amongst many others) has thankfully DIED a wretched and deserved DEATH.

That group had, as its leader, the installment of a person who seemed to insist upon being recognized as a “queen”. While that particular person and her ‘minions’ thankfully seemed to have faded from view, it is a bit alarming that some of those conventions have managed to work their way, by way of casual mention, into this mostly positive and enthusiastic discussion. I am quite certain every large “SM Community” in the larger Western Civilization cities have experienced similar, if not the exact same, problem.

For the record, I won’t entertain angry banter between former members any of that imperialistic kind of  ”group” and myself. It is fairly well remembered in Toronto that I personally found this one particular group quite pedantic and only worthy of open and continuous ridicule, while I was told by more than one person “in confidence” that I was Public Enemy Number One in their collective eyes for pretty much their entire existence. This isn’t designed as a “kicking when they’re dead” attack on this group of people, but more to draw attention to one of their misappropriated conventions that, sadly, seems to be hanging around a little far too much for my liking, or the collective GOOD of our proclivity …

“Protocol” is a badly – BADLY – misused term in our peculiar predilection. “Protocol” refers to, by definition, diplomatic agreements including treaties and trade arrangements; an imperical and internationally standardized set of rules for medical research and the publishing of papers; a published statement relating or reporting on scientific observation and verification; and an international computer language, again with universal standards, in which machines can communicate with each other.

When used as a verb, “Protocol” refers to the the issuance of any of the above nouns.

Just because so many people use the word doesn’t mean its usage is correct.

I didn’t start hearing the use of the word “protocol” in am SM related sense until I started reading some of the (eye-rolling) posts that was being offered out by that aforementioned deceased tiny group. I’ve since seen it virally spiral and disseminate through the internet in other major centres as “acceptable terminology”. Now, I really don’t care who started using the word “protocol” first in an SM sense, however: the truth is, its WRONG.

Is there difficulty with using the terminology we SHOULD be using? How about the words “ritual” and “etiquette”, which both actually fit FAR better as proper terminology for a procedural SM setting?

I have always thought the insistance of the use of the word “protocol” stemmed from a very poorly written but over-popularized series of books by a certain popular “vampire” authoress: she created a fantasy ‘Kingdom’ and environment with fantastical, ‘regal’ people – and a recently silenced ‘queen’ started making claims that people in SM subculture “world wide” used that term when referring to the code of conduct that took place at their gatherings. That claim was a farce – but it seems to continue to propagate … I could go into a long dissertation about the many, many misused examples of the English tongue in the Gorean “life” … but I don’t really feel like having the “tarns” and “sleens” of the Gorean “masters” unleashed on my formerly-fat ass in retribution …

At least, not tonight …

Could we possibly have a discussion about this and perhaps make a committed effort to actually stop propagating the illusion that we are deserving of some kind of “Kingdom” status – which would somehow justify the use of the word “Protocol” in a diplomatic sense?

I know – it’s very hard to stop a runaway train. But I can at least try and throw some switches to force it off the tracks …

Weekly Toy review from Darkniis on Marquis Fetish Blog

MARQUIS AMERICA toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

I have often been asked about the toys that line the walls and many
drawers of my dungeon.  As I am both a Professional and a Lifestyle
Dominatrix, all of my equipment has been put through its paces. I have
several projects on the go that require product quality testing for my
own line of products and for the products of others. Here are some of
the results of my favourite toys and gear, from my haus to yours; for
your reading pleasure… Darkniis’ Toybox.
sinvention_bondage_mittsSinvention Original Padded Locking Fist Mitts

 From the website:

“NOW improved to absolutely prevent any use of hands by the wearer.
Please don’t mistake these items for the low quality asian made knock
off versions being offered by other sellers. Pesky fingers and cold
winter nights are just what these Padded Fist Mitts were meant for! We
have designed these top quality items using super soft lining leather,
high density foam and a full grain thick glove leather outer. Heavy
welded buckles and dees combined with a lockable post fitted on to an
expertly finished bridle leather strap will keep these mitts securely
in place until you decide to take them off. The ergo shape forces the
wearer to hold their hand in a fist shape preventing them from
extending any fingers outwards. Tis the season for the perfect
mittens!”

This is our first product review for Sinvention. The Mother of
Sinvention has sent us the Sinvention Original Padded Locking Fist
Mitts: www.churchofsinvention.com

These again were unveiled to my friends at C.O.P.E. and anyone else I could convince to try them on! They are very plush, padded and comfortable. As the website states, these are very high quality and carefully crafted. The hardware is heavy duty. The posts are lockable as pictured in the photo but the padlocks are not included. The Sinvention logo is stamped lovingly on the thick leather strap that holds it all together. I tried them on many sized hands – the larger hands are a little tight but they still can fit.

As soon as these were taken out of the box and put into my hands the creative wheels started turning… The way these mitts were designed they are multi-purpose for several different kinds of scening. They almost look like hooves so they would be perfect for the cold tile floors up north here in Canada! They are also suitably shaped for puppy play! My dungeon is largely medically themed and these are perfect for the psych patient.

One of the Dominants that got to look these over was worried about long scenes and the fact that having his subbie’s hands balled up into a fist for a long time would cause circulation problems. His girl tried them on and found the mitt to be quite comfortably confining. They are warm and soft inside.

I tried these out on one of my feisty grrls that is a swinger (she likes to lash out with swinging and kicking when you smack her in just the right way!). I pushed all the right buttons with her and made her swing those padded fists – even let her connect – it was rather amusing! Needless to say I remain bruise free thanks to the Sinvention mitts. We also had no problem with the “pins and needles” feeling from poor circulation.

Because the Mother of Sinvention takes such pride and care in the making of her products, I can guarantee you that you could put these through any heavy duty play that would normally involve wrist restraints. For those pesky subs that like to try and free themselves – these are better than cuffs because there is absolutely no way that anyone could free themselves from these. They are under your complete control until you unlock the padlocks that hold them. As stated above it’s also a lot of fun to let them try and swing at you (while blindfolded of course!) and not get any rise out of you.

The Mother of Sinvention is a fellow Canadian, so that makes her products all the more special. They are available in several cities across Canada and always available on the website. And last, but not least, she accepts PayPal for those of you that like the PayPal guarantee.

Go and become a member of the Church of Sinvention and let the Mother of Sinvention know that Darkniis sent you!

tailorhatsmarbx20_smallMARQUIS AMERICA recommends the Edwardian Ball!
This weekend is the Edwardian Ball, the biggest event of the year for folks who love costuming, burlesque, corsetry, circus, waltzing….and fetish wear, since in this town, there’s a LOT of crossover.

In particular, corset fetishery really shines at the Ball- it seems like every girl and half the boys are wearing corsets!

Friday night is the Dark Garden performance, featuring the most beautfiul, most elaborate, most spectacular Dark Garden corsetry on beautiful models in fabulous outfits. If you haven’t seen a Dark Garden fashion show, let me tell you it is really something to see. I just watch and drool.

BTW, you can now order Dark Garden corsets through the MarquisAmerica site!

http://www.marquisamerica.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=34&osCsid=fnibf61pt942k884tmnae8ng86

There will be an art show as well, including some of my own work from my “Sexy Boys” series- cute boys with whips and tentacles! And loads of bands, and burlesque, and circus acts. If you are anywhere near the Bay Area, do try to make it! And if you can’t, there are always amazing galleries of the spectacular fashions up on the site afterwards.

I feel like the luckiest corset maker because so many people tell me they love my work and I’ve had a chance to work with some of my favorite people in the fetish and adult world. It’s pretty amazing to me that the way I’ve met people has been viral.. I’ll loan corsets to one photographer, who introduces me to a model, who wants to use my corsets again with another photographer and so on and so on. I count Christine Kessler as one of my homegirls here in Los Angeles and it’s been a thrill getting to work with Lithium Picnic and so many others. I’m so grateful my corsets get to go on these beautiful bodies and I’m part of this worldwide community!

Have you got a fetish worry? from the Sun, Jan.20

20|
January
2009 | 4:31 pm

IF you’re worried about you or your partner having a sexual fetish, I’m going to do my best to help you find a happy compromise.

There are often so many guilty feelings attached to sex, even these days, that it can be very hard to work out what is reasonable and what is not, what is unnecessary inhibition and what is a very understandable need to draw the line.

Basically, fetishism is being hooked on some accessory to love-making, usually particular items of clothing you need yourself or your partner to wear. It’s thought to be more common among men than women, perhaps partly because men respond more strongly to visual sexual triggers than women.

A mild degree of fetishism is very common. Plenty of men find it sexually exciting to see their partner wearing sexy undies. One in 10 men says that their favourite fantasy is of their partner dressed in particular clothes or underwear, anything from silky stockings and suspenders to studded leather and thigh-high boots.

What is the special attraction of leather and rubber, high-heeled shoes, silky fabrics and snapping elastic? To start with, we have been conditioned to see them as particularly sexy.

The underwear seen as signalling, “Come and get me,” dates back to the music-hall era, when for a woman to flash an ankle was daring. In those days, if a man got a glimpse of suspenders and stays, they were probably on a “fallen woman”. So the underwear of the turn of the century has become the uniform of the woman who is interested in sex.

The partner who dresses up in stockings and suspenders is showing the man that she is on the side of his sexuality, willing to rebel against repression. It helps them to throw off their inhibitions.

For some, that’s as far as it goes, but some progress beyond mere sexy underwear into rubber, leather and boots which can be extremely important for them to feel sexual arousal and release. The pattern seems to be laid down in early childhood.

Men are more likely to get hooked on fetishes or sado-masochism if they suffer a cold, unloving childhood, don’t experience many loving cuddles and are too often left to get the physical stimulation they need from their babyhood environment – nappies, waterproof coverings, being left to play around Mum’s feet – rather than from being held close to Mum’s warm body and lovingly cuddled, which is what small babies really need and long for.

They end up hooked on and stimulated by the fabrics and objects instead of a loving woman’s body. Finding release in pain usually stems from only getting attention or simulation when young when it was linked with physical or emotional pain.

Refined and embellished over the years, the fetish objects and clothes become necessary to sexual pleasure, part of the inner programming for sexual arousal, but also may be associated with a woman who dominates and says no, who has total power over him.

There is nothing perverted about something two people both enjoy doing together. If a woman is happy to dress up in the way that pleases her man – or vice versa – and it adds to the excitement and pleasure for both of them, what’s the harm?

However, fetishism does cause problems in a relationship when one partner, and it is usually the woman, gets the feeling that it is not so much her who is turning her partner on but the fetish. Once she gets the feeling that he doesn’t much care who is wearing the boots or whatever, as long as somebody does, she naturally feels very threatened.

How do you solve this dilemma? It’s a terrible mistake for the woman to try to ignore her own feelings and play-act just to please her man. All that will happen is that she will find it all more and more distasteful and it may quickly kill all her love for her partner.

Similarly, if you are a man who is attached to a fetish, don’t try to pressurise your partner into taking part if she doesn’t really like the idea. You will only damage your relationship. She won’t grow to enjoy it.

You may be able to reach a compromise that you vary your love-making, sometimes doing it your way, sometimes hers. If not, and it really is causing serious problems between you, then you should get expert help.

To start with you need a sympathetic and informed outsider to help you decide between you whether the real problem is that one of you is too much of a fetishist, or whether it really is that the other is extremely hidebound and inhibited. Whatever the answer, expert sex therapy can transform your relationship for the better.

Relate provide skilled sex therapy all over the country (0300 100 1234, http://www.relate.org.uk/), or you can contact the British Association of Sexual and Relationship Therapy for details of qualified therapists near you (020 8543 2707, http://www.basrt.org.uk/).

If you would like more help from me, further advice on some specific problem you have, or a free leaflet giving fuller details of where you can obtain help for emotional and sexual problems, please e-mail problems@deardeidre.org.

Stella van Gent

Stella van Gent
Marquis America  recommends Stella van Gent at www.redoptics.com
3120283226_7c92e3fb6b_o1My name is Stella (for all those of you that might have overlooked this up until now…). I would describe myself as a tolerant, happy and open minded young woman. At the same time I am eccentric, moody and I like to dominate. Do not get me wrong, though, I am NOT a professional mistress. I love extravagant, feminine fashion. I probably differ from many otherwomen in the respect that I love provocative clothing not only on the catwalk, in films or on photos, I also love to wear sexy clothes myself. High heels as well as leather, latex, nylon pantyhose and lingerie are my all time favourites. My love for fetish wear is not restricted to my home as I also like to wear my fetish clothes in public. My lifestyle allows me to show myself wearing provocative leather outfits in public.
716340009_336569d91a_o1Some servile and generous men who know how to please a woman marvel at my extravagant appearance and they accompany and entertain me from time to time. At this point I would like to tell you about some of the outfits I own: At present I own about 40 pairs of high heeled shoes and just as many boots. I absolutely love leather and I am particularly fond of boots. Most of all I like high heeled stilettos on boots (especially on over the knee boots). I think they crown the appearance of a gorgeous woman. Way too many females do not dare to wear sexy shoes. Maybe they are afraid of making a slutty impression. I love the tingling feeling my appearance gives me when I walk around in my sexy outfits. This is true when I meet my friends as well as when I am in public.Yes, you have guessed correctly, I am probably the incarnation of a fetish exhibitionist! Being an adorable “leather-lady ” gives me power over the men around me. I love seeing the reaction on the faces of of the men. I enjoy the glazed looks that stare upon my long nylon covered legs and I relish the helplessness and desire that makes the men slaves of their own innermost fetishes. I have a dominant personality and some people call my lifestyle SM but I call it self-realization. Aesthetics mean a lot to me and I like well-dressed, well-built and intelligent people with good manners.
2702813495_758af806e2_o1I have been exercising my inclination openly for over 2 years now and this has paved the way for me to enjoy pure sensation when I employ my power. I am looking forward to more fulfilment in the future. I hope that I can use this website to put back a shot of eroticism into your life. Many men today feel neglected by unimaginative and passionless women. I would personally wish for more women to show their courage and desire because “she who ventures wins” so come on and … Stay in style, stay on (High!) Heels………. girls “

Are We Desensitized to The Violence?

17|
January
2009 | 1:17 am

tn-01242News Item: Man dressed as “Santa Claus” murders eight people in Los Angeles.

News Item: Israeli air strikes kill over 225 people

News Item: Another Canadian soldier dies in Afghanistan

News Item: Yul Brynner, from the grave, utters his infamous phrase, “etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!”

Is it just me that seems more than a little bothered by the monumental apathy that seems to accompany the news today?

Have the events of September 11, 2001, the most OVER-EMPHASIZED and equally OVER-DERIDED news event of the “Baby Boomer Generation” (Sorry JFK – you’re a close second) truly made us almost immune to reports of our peers and neighbours being butchered?

Sure – we’re all involved in SM. And let’s drop the pretentiousness of “play parties”, all the artificial snobbery and arrogance that accompanies any number of ridiculous “honourifics” and the incessant sniping regarding who binds and whips better than “who” … Put your god blessed indignity in your back pockets for a moment and face the facts. It’s time, to quote Tom Hanks, to “wake up and smell the river.”

Let’s see: Seven of the top ten shows on television are crime dramas. Two are reality-based competition shows and one is a medical drama. The inference? We LOVE watching people suffer. We’re addicted to violence, we get off on it.

Isn’t it more than just a little curious that films such as “House of 1000 Corpses”, the various films in the “Saw” franchise, and the over-hyped “Hostel” franchise, fair relatively poorly at the box office – yet continuously lead the way in DVD sales and rentals? Why is that, you think?

We LOVE watching people suffer. We’re addicted to violence, we get off on it. Yes, Old Syn said that twice. There’s a reason for it. It’s the TRUTH.

Most of us came to SM because we had either a fantasy that involved some element of victimization. Those so-called “lifestylers” (and get over yourselves: SM is SEX, it’s not a “lifestyle”) will undoubtedly get indignant and self-righteous like they always do when their precious “lifestyle” is openly laid out for what it truly is: an EXCUSE to live your life in a sexually aggressive manner and an attempt to add some kind of justification to sexual politics. Being involved in SM is truly no different that being gay – you’re born with it. I would say that expressing SM in our society is a PRIVILEGE and a BLESSING, but a “lifestyle?” Please, spare me your rationalizations …

… But the truth is most of us had our first “SM” experience as very young children, playing Cops and Indians or Cowboys and Robbers or whatever. We probably all got our first “funny heart rush” when we saw a movie about someone being abducted, tied up and gagged (and in the spy-crazy entertainment mecca that was the 1960′s and 1970′s, there was PLENTY of that). It turned us on to fantastize (if that was then the word) of us either being captured by the Bad Guy and/or Villainess, or outright being the evil perpetrator ourselves.

The internet certainly has made the world of sadomasochism a hell of a lot more accessible to younger and younger throngs of people. Some see this as a blessing: I don’t. I was “raised” in an era where you weren’t just granted instant access to valuable information, you had to LEARN and EARN it. I applaud the various educational facilitators who take their time to educate the younger generation of “our ways”, I think you provide (for the most part) a valuable service). I do not think it appropriate, however, when certain “trade tips and secrets” are plastered all over the internet as some kind of badge of merit for people who thump their chests and demand credit and attention as being some kind of “expert”.

Which brings me back to the initial question: All that considered, when something tragic happens it USED to be monstrous news. The “Santa Shooting” actually took the lives of nearly half (so far) the number that the Columbine High School shootings did in 1998. Yet, Columbine’s images stayed glued to our television sets, without end, for days if not weeks. I am quite certain some of you reading this article right now are thinking to yourselves, “what Santa shooting?”

Our electronic graphic imagery, I think, has completely desensitized us to the plight and suffering of victims of extreme violence. The War in Iraq has become a mini-series. The War in Afghanistan is relegated to the back pages of the news sections – if mentioned at all (except in Canada when a soldier is killed, obviously). School shootings seem to happen on a daily basis. As long as “those things” don’t happen to, or directly affect us, right?

Some that know me, know very well that I embrace “all things evil”, which is admittedly convenient when it comes to extreme fantasies and playing with people’s minds in order to get the metaphorical mind juices flowing. But even Old Syn is disturbed by the monumental apathy currently being exhibited on our daily computer screens and plasma televisions being passed off as “news entertainment”.

Do we, as people, SM people especially, really care about what happens in the rest of the world anymore?

I don’t really want an answer: I think it will only serve to depress me. That, as D.H. Lawrence wrote, is the true definition of tragedy, when “people have only and always have sex in their heads instead of down where it properly belongs.”

Thoughts on Michael Manning and David Delamare…

13|
January
2009 | 2:15 pm

michaelmanningFor my birthday last week I got several beautiful books of fetish artwork. Ah, my friends know me so well! One is “Inamorata”, a fancy hardcover collection of Michael Manning’s shiny, sexy, super-fetishy work. http://www.thespidergarden.net/

As MM has designed many tattoos, often for folks in the fetish community, I wonder if any of you Marquis blog readers have one you’d care to share? I’d love to see photos!

I love the combination 0f warmly human faces and crazy mecha-penetration, armature-corsets, and robo-bestiality in Manning’s work; he’s such an unusual talent.

And speaking of bestiality, I also got a book called “Animerotics”, by David Delamare. Some seriously beautiful and freaky work, with circus/goth/burlesque type girls frolicking with, well, circus animals! If you like chicks with animal masks and tails and fire-eating and such, check this guy out! http://www.daviddelamare.com/

In local SF fetish art news, there’s art and crafts night at The Center for Sex and Culture on  Jan 14th- you can bring your knitting! I know there’s patterns for knitting all kinds of naughty parts available on etsy…

Saturday Visit to Syren/Stockroom Boutique in L.A.

11|
January
2009 | 9:04 pm

I wanted to post a quick blog about the great visit I had to Syren this weekend.  Not only did I get to pick out some beautiful new gloves, I had the pleasure of seeing a few members of their lovely staff again. They showed me some new pieces, a riding jacket that’s only going to be sold in stores – so email/call/fly to Los Angeles to get your hands on them. They are absolutely amazing.

about-stacks

Gold and baby pink frilled gloves and we got my partner a pair of rubber boy shorts that fit whimisically!

The fantastic thing about these little gloves is the construction, hands down (no pun intended)! The layering and assembly is inredibly sturdy and there’s no fear the exquisite ruffles will be unfortunately torn off.

More soon!

Ciao!

Remembering Harvey: The Thirty Year March to Equality

10|
January
2009 | 12:03 am

harveymilk460November 27th, 2008, marked the 30th anniversary of the official, world-wide “coming out” of anyone, and everyone, who proudly marches to the beat of an alternative drum.

I’ve made imploring pleas before in many other forums – but I must state for the record, and a little more emphatically – the very real need for anyone who has ever marched with their gay brothers and Sapphic sisters in a display of arm-in-arm pride; or anyone who has ever attended a parade (or even a simple fetish event at your local, accommodating neighbourhood bar) to please utter a near-silent prayer of thanks, tonight …

… in memory of Harvey Milk.

Thirty years ago, I was a homophobic lad, living a blissfully ignorant life in Northern California. When I came home that terrible November afternoon, I found my (late) guardian, governess and beloved Lady Papillon inconsolable, distraught and in a great deal of emotional distress. “Someone killed Harvey and the Mayor,” she screamed. Over and over again she wailed the word, “Why?” as if she expected one of her beloved boys to provide a magic answer and/or explanation.

harvey-milk-plaqueI’d never met Harvey – but I sure knew about him. The Mayor of Castro Street … Owner of a popular photographic supply outlet called Castro Camera … The first openly gay elected public official in the United States (or anywhere else in the world, for that matter). Harvey was a tireless agitator and warrior for equality for all people who professed to live an “alternative lifestyle”. He never demanded any kind of “special considerations” for gay and lesbian people living in San Francisco at that time. He never openly called for leather folk to collectively march down Folsom or Ashbury in gloved-fist waving show of defiance. No, Harvey’s “revolution” was something far, far less reactionary.

He just wanted everyone – gay, straight, bisexual, kinky, whatever – to enjoy the exact same and equal rights and freedoms, across the board. Sadly, as those who follow the same-sex marriage debate will undoubtedly tell you, not all of Harvey’s battles have yet to be won.

My Mistress knew Harvey, and Mayor George Moscone (who was also felled by a bullet fired from the gun of a disturbed former colleague named Dan White) and worked very closely with both of them to create understanding and acceptance for San Francisco’s large SM community in the 1970’s. In some regards, this was a much, much higher mountain to climb – but Harvey wasn’t daunted. I remember Papillon telling me that Harvey told her during a meeting at City Hall one afternoon, “You leather people are freaks – just like the rest of us!” It was his way of saying “we’re all in this together”, and he wanted her to know when he spoke at his “Hope Rallies” and in front of the television cameras, his voice rang out for all of us.

Papillion was one of the very, very few people who openly accepted the transgendered into her home in those days. Harvey encouraged her to continue to try and counsel “those people” and give them as much love and respect as he gave to her. “I don’t hold the fact that you have ovaries over your head,” he once told her. “Don’t hold the fact that they still have testicles over theirs.” It was because of Harvey’s urgings and encouragement that Papillon became who she was: an iconographic figure and a known voice herself in the large SM “underworld” at a time when “small computers” were the size of bathrooms and the “internet” was a piece of commercial fishing equipment.

Papillon’s tears were uninterruptable that cold November 27th evening, thirty years ago. She still grabbed a candle, though, and asked me and my “brothers” to join her when we started noticing Castro Street filling with people and starting to march towards, first, Castro Park and then City Hall later that night. In that instant, any hint of homophobia within me died a deserved death – and my brothers and I each grabbed a candle, and we joined over a million other people on the march.

That march changed my life. I am ashamed to say it took Harvey Milk to die in order to get me – and obviously so many others – to realize that being born “different” isn’t a choice for most of us: it’s genetics and there isn’t a damn thing we can do, or could have done, about it. My opinions about the gay and lesbian community – watching them all gather and march together, arm in arm and weeping in a collective outpouring of sheer grief and anger – were forever altered that night.

tn-0124I’m not gay – however, I am certainly very comfortable defending the right of anyone ‘alternative minded’ to their freedom of expression. I am quite sure I am not alone in this.

It was thirty years ago. My. There is a commemorative plaque in Castro Street Park dedicated to Harvey Milk now. In May this past year, a bust in his honour was unveiled at City Hall in San Francisco. And, of course, there is a film out about his one-man struggle to bring acceptance for an entire generation of “different folks” – which includes me, and includes you. I doubt even Harvey would believe just how far we’ve all come in the past thirty years. There is still, however, work that needs to be done …

Say a silent prayer of thanks, and peace, for Harvey Milk tonight. I am quite sure there was an anniversary march down Castro in the late evening of November 27th, 2008 … and I really wish I’d have been there.

Rest in Peace, Harvey. You’re remembered tonight. I doubt you’ll ever be forgotten.

Busy As A Mosquito In A Nudist Colony…

9|
January
2009 | 5:38 pm

I was thinking, I spend so much time on the computer – and so much of that looking at latex – I thought it might be fun to post a weekly “What’s-New-What’s-In-My-Running-Wish-list?!” Many of us know, acquiring latex and other fetish-y goodnesses is quite the delicate process. I mean, putting on latex or corsets, et al, isn’t something you can rush! As well, a girl has to budget her dough for other “fun” things like tattoos, shoes, books, music, and good food! So consider this my little NSFW “picks-of-the-week”, enjoy!

Well, if you read my last post, you know I’m currently obsessed with HMS’s (Sophie’s) designs! I’m waiting on her new neck-piece to arrive into my grubby hands, and I think I’m going to soon purchase THIS skirt to match:

(c) HMS LATEX

(c) HMS LATEX

On the perpetual “quest” for the perfect catsuit, today I ran across one at House Of Harlot that almost sent me to the floor:

(c) HOH

(c) HOH

It’s form fitting and boasts a built in catsuit. Another thing I love is the neckline! I personally prefer to show that part off, not so much because of my billowing chest, but because of my chest tattoo. It’s all about aesthetics, right? I would love any feedback if anyone has this or had the chance to try it on!

Finally, I am dearly blessed to be around the corner from Syren/Stockroom! I’ve had the pleasure of being personally fitted for their Basic Rubber Corset ::swoon::

Tomorrow I’m going to stop by because I’ve been dying to see their new Strapless Ruffle Dress “in person”:

Gorgeous!

Oh, I don’t forget about the boys! Of course, I own one myself :)

Hoping they have a pair of these in his size for trying on. I might have to treat him to a belated Christmas gift.

Hope you enjoy! I’ll post more about my adventures at Syren on Sunday :)

New Events, New Latex…

January

(c) HMS Latex

(c) HMS Latex

Happy New Year, my fetish friends! Embedded within me is the excitement over the upcoming DomCon LA!  Are you going?  This will be a first for me and my partner! The convention is 3 days long, boasting over 40 classes and workshops, and according to the website is hosting a number of Professional Dominatrices from all over the world! Visit their website for the full frontal detalia!  www.domconla.com

Currently in the world of latex is a designer with some exciting new pieces! HMS Latex has recently launched a few new pieces: this gorgeous flower and leaf neck piece – of which I am soon to be the proud owner of (photos as soon as it arrives!) and a Pedrolino top – seen in black white, worn by the artist. (click photo go to her shop)

(c) HMS LATEX

(c) HMS LATEX

Sophie has a really down-to-earth approach to why she makes latex:

“I enjoy a latex fashion that is close to regular fashion. I’m generally little into the dominatrix look, even if I allow myself some little pleasures. I usually create garments that fetishists can wear on a daily basis.”

I personally can relate to this, and I love being able to incorporate latex fashion into daily life whenever I can. Her high quality, interesting pieces, and exquisite design make this possible… and deliciously fun!

Another company I am partial to has just launched some AMAZING new pieces I’m thrilled over. These brand new lace designs from Marquis come in every style, from a hoodie, to gloves, garters, skirts, and stockings of the highest quality.

I adore HMS’s work because it has a very individual style I am in love with, and Marquis because of the endless options they give us. Ciao!

Chubby Wolf in Mississippi – Fetish tour

3|
January
2009 | 11:40 pm

MARQUIS AMERICA report from Chubby Wolf

Here’s wishing everyone an indecent “Happy Holidays”!  This year I flew down to Mississippi – the land of Furries, Goths, hicks, Baptists, and… My in-laws. One day last week we drove down to New Orleans for the day (I had never been) and I took advantage of this opportunity to visit a few of the more “naughty” establishments. The first place we browsed was a shop called Second Skin Leather [insert photo 1] located at 521 Saint Philip Street. It was your usual all-encompassing sex shop with pornography of the printed and digital forms, accessories, paraphernalia & trappings, and an entire room strung wall to wall with a wide variety of bondage frills and trimmings. They even had an impressive selection of leather hoods! As I fondled the products I thought how I wouldn’t find any latex on this adventure but instead of being disappointed I began to think about how alluring the combination of latex and other materials is, such as leather or silk.

Next, I stopped at 831 Chartres Street’s TrashyDiva to partake of some beautiful corsetry and stockings [insert photo 2]. I highly recommend visiting Candice Gwinn’s website: http://www.trashydiva.com/site/corsetsspecialty.html

BUT, speaking of latex! I am the lucky new owner of a purple and black bra from HMS! Her work is absolutely stunning and I’m looking forward to being HMS-clas for the SF Fetish ball if it’s going to be on this year!”

Cheers!     Chubbs    www.marquisamerica.com
